Luxfloor, pegasus, lucky floor and floorever Flooring Installation Guide
Which way to lay the planks?
The floor usually looks best if the planks
are laid in the same direction as incoming light. Hallways
and long, narrow rooms look best if the planks are installed
along the leght of the room, irrespective of the light
source.
Start by measuring the room
Measure the width of the room (i.e. at right
angles to the planned direction of the planks). The final
row may have to be sawn lengthwise if the planks don’t
match the width of the rooms exactly. If the final row
is narrower than 50mm the best result will be achieved
if you saw the planks in both the first and last rows.
The Underlay
Lay the Damp Proof Membrane (for
concrete floor only) where necessary, and remember to
leave 20cm overlaps. Lay the Foam Underlay.
Before you glue
(1)Check the planks are without
defects before laying. Saw to the required length and
do a test layout of the first three rows of planks. This
will allow you to ensure that the first rows are completely
straight before you start. You will also see how many
distance blocks you need and where to place them. The
grooves edge of the planks should be next to the wall.
See illustration below.
Planks have a good groove and a tongued
side.
(2)Measure, mark and cut all the planks.
With a hand saw, saw with the decorative side of the planks
upwards. With a circular saw, the decorative side should
face downwards. The joints on the short sides should be
pressed together using the hell iron. Place the distance
blocks against the walls on both the long and short sides.
(3)To start the next row use the remainder
of the cut plank from the first row. If this is less than
25cm long start with a new plank and cut it in the middle.
Then continue with another plank.
(4)Continue laying out the rest of the planks
in the second row. Gently push the planks together using
the Hammering block.
(5)On completion of the first two rows you
will be able to see if the wall is straight. If the wall
is not straight mark the contour of the wall on the first
row and saw it accordingly. Bear in mind the width that
will be required for the final plank against the opposite
wall.
In adjoining rows leave at least 25cm
between the end joints.
(6)Luxfloor is a "floating" floor.
It therefore must not be glued or nailed to the underlying
floor. Use glue on top edge of tongue only and use plenty
of it. When the planks are trapped together glue will
be squeezed out and this excess should be aloud to form
a skin on top and then be removed with a spatula and wiped
with a damp cloth. Rinse out this cloth frequently.
(7)Take the plank in the corner and glue
it to the first plank in the second row. This makes the
important first two rows stable. Next glue the second
plank in the first row ensuring that the entire tongue
is filled with glue. Then glue the second plank in the
second row. After the glue is applied tap the planks together
with a Hammering Block and the hammer. Then if further
press is needed in the length press them together with
the Heel Iron. Continue to lay the floor and work from
left to right. (We recommend flooring clamps are used
when fitting the first 3 rows. These are available from
your local stockist).
Pipes and Door Frames - no problem!
Pipes on the short side.
(1)Measure the diameter of the pipe and
drill holes centred on the pipe that are 10mm larger than
the pipe diameter. This will allow for movement . The
plank is cut through the centre of the holes.
(2)Use plenty of glue and using the Heel
Iron press the end piece into place. Distance blocks should
also be used.
Pipes on the long side.
Treat as pipes on the short side but saw
at an angle of 45 to the holes in the plank.
Door Frames.
To fit the floor under a door frame lay
a loose plank upside down on top of the underlay against
the door frame and saw. The flooring can then be slid
in under the door frame. Remember to leave room for the
underlay.
Twelve hours later you can walk on the floor.
Removing the distance blocks and fixing the skirting boards
or beads into position to complete your beautiful floor.
Skirting must allow free movement of the floating floor.
Maintenance/Stain Guide
Luxfloor is virtually maintenance free.
All it needs to restore its lustre after most "incidents"
is a wipe with a damp cloth. For really tough stains,
we recommend using a little acetone. Avoid using water
as it will damage your flooring and always clean up spillages
immediately. To keep your laminated floor in good condition,
be sure to:
- Use the floor exclusively under the recommended
conditions.
- Put down a mat or rug to eliminate the
risk of marks(gravel, soil, etc.) inside doorways and
around sinks, etc., to protect from spillages.
- Move furniture carefully to avoid damaging
the laminated surface.
- Felt pads are recommended under chairs
and heavy furniture.
